Travelling to São Paulo for the expo

Visa, health, flights, arrival, money and practical facts for Bangladeshi exhibitors and delegates — plus visa notes for Brazilians travelling to Bangladesh.

Visa for Bangladeshi passport holders

Holders of ordinary Bangladeshi passports need a Brazilian visa issued before they travel. You submit your file at the Embassy of Brazil in Dhaka by appointment, and the decision rests with the embassy alone. The steps below follow the embassy's own list.

Checked against the Embassy of Brazil in Dhaka's published requirements on 12 October 2026. Requirements can change — verify with the embassy before you apply.

Your visa file

Visit visa (VIVIS) · business

Step 7 of 7 Allow enough time

16 items in the file

By appointment only

Visa fee BDT 11,200 pay order · not refundable

Processing: up to 20 working days

  1. Check the visa type

Exhibitors and delegates need Brazil's visit visa (VIVIS), which covers business trips, including meetings, events and trade fairs. Choose business as the purpose of your visit; it needs the extra documents listed in step 3. Holders of Bangladeshi diplomatic and official passports do not need a visa.

  2. Arrange the invitation letter

A business visa needs an invitation letter from a Brazilian company or person, notarised in Brazil in the same jurisdiction as the inviting company. The Brazil Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BBCCI) will tell registered exhibitors and delegates how invitation letters are arranged for the 2026 edition.

  3. Gather your documents

The embassy's list for a business applicant has 16 items: the online form, 11 documents required for every visit visa, and four more for business.

For every visit visa: passport valid for at least six months, with a photocopy; national ID card or birth certificate, translated and notarised; two recent passport-size photos; personal bank statement for the last six months and a balance certificate; updated income-tax certificate and acknowledgement receipt, translated and notarised; a recent utility bill; police clearance certificate; hotel booking in Brazil; return air-ticket reservation; a letter of introduction stating your current status and the purpose of the visit; proof of employment or self-employment.

For business: the invitation letter from step 2; company records (memorandum, trade licence and the last three months' bank statement); Import and Export Registration Certificates (IRC and ERC); the company's TIN and BIN certificates.

  4. Fill in the online form

Fill in and sign the online application on the Brazilian foreign ministry's system at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br (opens in a new tab), in line with your other documents. Upload scans of your passport's information pages and the supporting documents, then take the complete file to your appointment.

  5. Book an appointment

Files are accepted only by prior appointment. Book by phone on +880 2 55052127 or +880 2 55052128, Sunday to Tuesday between 09:30 and 10:00. The embassy is at Bay's Edgewater (Ground and 1st Floor), NE(N) 12, North Avenue, Gulshan-2, Dhaka 1212, and its consular section is open Sunday to Thursday, 09:30–14:30. Consular email: [email protected].

  6. Pay the fee and submit

The visa fee is BDT 11,200, paid by pay order from a bank in Dhaka in the embassy's name. The fee is not refundable. Hand in the pay order with your complete file at the appointment.

  7. Allow enough time

The embassy says processing may take up to 20 working days, that it may ask for further documents, and that incomplete files are not accepted. Forged documents bring a ten-year ban. For the 2025 edition, BBCCI's plan set aside about two months before the expo for visa formalities, so start as soon as you register.

Health and vaccinations

Do I need a yellow-fever certificate?

Dhaka → São PauloBrazil: not asked on entry

Vaccination is still recommended for travellers to São Paulo state and city.

São Paulo → DhakaBangladesh: certificate required

Brazil is a country with yellow-fever risk, so Bangladesh asks for the certificate when you come home.

  • From age one
  • Also after a transit of more than 12 hours in a risk country
  • Carry the original in your hand luggage

Yellow fever: needed for your return. Brazil does not ask for a yellow-fever vaccination certificate on entry. Bangladesh, however, requires one from travellers aged one year or older who arrive from countries with a risk of yellow-fever transmission, including after a transit of more than 12 hours in such a country — and Brazil is one of them. Vaccination is also recommended for travellers to São Paulo state and the city of São Paulo. Get vaccinated well before you leave, ask your doctor about the timing, and carry the original certificate in your hand luggage.

Other risks. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes dengue and an increased risk of chikungunya in Brazil, so protect yourself against mosquito bites. There is no malaria transmission in the city of São Paulo. Ask your doctor about routine vaccines, including measles, and about hepatitis A and B.

Airlines and transit countries can apply their own rules to passengers coming from Brazil, and health rules change. Check with your airline before you fly home. Health information checked against CDC travel pages reviewed in August and September 2026.

Flights from Dhaka

No direct flights

Dubai Doha Istanbul Addis Ababa Dhaka GRU

Dhaka → Dubai · Doha · Istanbul · Addis Ababa → São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU)

24–32 h in total · one connection

Schematic map

There are no direct flights between Dhaka and São Paulo. Routings with one connection go through hubs such as Dubai, Doha, Istanbul or Addis Ababa and land at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU). Total travel time is typically 24 to 32 hours, depending on the connection — check your itinerary.

Choose a routing that does not need a transit visa, and check the transit rules for your connecting airport with the airline, especially if you change airports or leave the transit area. Schedules and airspace advisories change, so confirm your routing close to departure.

Samples in your luggage. Brazil's tax and customs authority, Receita Federal, requires travellers to use the goods-to-declare channel for taxable goods above US$1,000, items under sanitary or agricultural control, temporary-admission goods of non-residents above US$3,000, and goods meant for another person or company, which must go through a formal import. The declaration is made electronically (e-DBV). Rules depend on the product, so check with your freight forwarder or customs broker before you pack.

  • Train and metro from GRU

The route the venue itself recommends. CPTM's Expresso Aeroporto and Line 13-Jade leave from Aeroporto-Guarulhos station, which a free bus or people mover links with the terminals; the Expresso Aeroporto runs to Palmeiras-Barra Funda, the station nearest the venue. From the station's Av. Jornalista Aloysio Biondi exit, take bus 9784-10 Jd. dos Francos to Av. Ordem e Progresso and walk about 400 m. GRU lists station hours of 04:00–00:00 from Sunday to Friday and 04:00–01:00 on Saturday. With luggage, a taxi or app ride is simpler.

  • Congonhas (CGH) and Viracopos (VCP)

Congonhas is the domestic airport in São Paulo's south zone, useful for connections from other Brazilian cities. It is about 18 km by road from the venue (about 25 minutes without traffic); take an app ride or a taxi. Between Guarulhos and Congonhas, Airport Bus Service runs line 258. Viracopos, in Campinas, is about 88 km by road from the venue and only matters if your flight lands there.

  • Metro near the venue

Palmeiras-Barra Funda is the nearest station: Metrô Line 3-Red (04:40–00:00 every day), the CPTM lines and the Expresso Aeroporto, with the city and intercity bus terminals alongside. It is 1.9 km from the venue in a straight line and about 2.7 km, or 36 minutes, on foot (OpenStreetMap walking-route estimate); the venue advises bus 9784-10 Jd. dos Francos from the station to Av. Ordem e Progresso, then a 400 m walk. Portuguesa-Tietê and Carandiru on Line 1-Blue, next to the 2025 venue, are about 4.5 km away.

  • Buses to the venue

The venue's own list of city buses that stop on Av. Ordem e Progresso, about 400 m from its entrance: 9784-10 Jd. dos Francos from the north side of Palmeiras-Barra Funda, 2014-10 Jd. Pery Alto from the south side, 917M-10 Morro Grande from Ana Rosa, 9717-10 Santana / Jd. Almanara from Carandiru and 9300-10 Terminal Casa Verde from Terminal Parque Dom Pedro II. The nearest bus terminal is Terminal Casa Verde, 1.5 km away. For routes and times, contact SPTrans or call the city's 156 line.

  • Staying safe

UK government travel advice for Brazil warns that robberies are common on buses and that phone theft peaks between 16:00 and 21:00. Keep your phone out of sight in the street, and if you are robbed, do not resist. Do not hail taxis in the street; use the authorised taxi counters at airports or an official app. Keep your card in sight when paying, buy your own drinks and keep them in sight, carry a copy of your passport, and avoid protests. In crowded wholesale streets such as those of Brás, keep phones and cash out of sight.

Travel quota from Bangladesh. Under a Bangladesh Bank circular of 30 September 2026, exporters, importers and producers on business travel may use US$400 a day, up to US$4,000 per trip and US$10,000 per calendar year, including through international cards. Private-sector participants at seminars or conferences abroad may take US$400 a day for the programme period plus one day, against an invitation letter. Exporters may also use their Exporters' Retention Quota (ERQ) balances for export fairs and seminars abroad without prior Bangladesh Bank approval (circular of 30 July 2026). Your bank applies the current rules, so confirm with it before you travel.

Brazilian real. Brazil's currency is the real (BRL, written R$). On 9 October 2026 one US dollar was worth R$4.99 (Central Bank of Brazil, PTAX rate); between 2024 and 2026 the rate moved between R$4.85 and R$6.21, so check it before you change money.

Changing money. At GRU, Banco Safra runs 24-hour exchange desks in Terminal 2 (arrivals hall and departures) and in Terminal 3. Near the 2025 venue, Getmoney has an exchange office in Shopping Center Norte (ground floor, store 700), about 0.7 km on foot from the Novotel: Monday to Friday 10:00–21:30, Saturday 10:00–20:00, Sunday 14:00–19:00.

Cards, cash and Pix. Card cloning is common: keep your card in sight, check the amount on the terminal and avoid any ATM that looks tampered with. Pix, Brazil's instant payment system, works only between accounts at Brazilian banks and payment institutions, and opening one in practice needs a CPF (Brazilian taxpayer number), so most short-term visitors cannot use it. Plan to pay by card or in cash.

Hotel Wi-Fi: ask whether it is included in the rate

Arrange mobile data before you fly. Roaming from your Bangladeshi operator, or an international travel eSIM bought before departure, keeps you connected when you land, which helps when you book an app ride at the airport. Compare prices with your provider.

If you prefer a Brazilian SIM card or eSIM, check the operator's current conditions for visitors before you buy. A phone locked to your Bangladeshi operator will not accept another operator's SIM, and an eSIM needs an eSIM-capable phone.

Ask your hotel whether Wi-Fi is included in the rate. In the street, keep your phone out of sight.

Bangladeshi community around Brás and Pari

Mosques. Mesquita Brasil, Brazil's oldest mosque, is at Rua Barão de Jaguará, 632, Cambuci, about 7.5 km from the venue in a straight line. It publishes daily prayer times for São Paulo on its website and receives visitors who book through its contact form. Mesquita do Brás is at Rua Elisa Whitacker, 17, Brás, about 5.6 km from the venue; OpenStreetMap lists it as a Shia mosque. The city guide also maps mosques in Santo Amaro, in the south zone, and in São Bernardo do Campo. Confirm prayer times locally.

Halal food. Arab halal butchers and restaurants have been reported around Rua Barão de Ladário and Rua Doutor Ornelas in Pari, about 6 km south-east of the venue. Places open and close, so call or check before you go. Brazil's main halal certifiers publish lists of certified manufacturers and slaughterhouses, not restaurants, so ask a restaurant directly where its meat comes from.

Bangladeshi community. There is a Bangladeshi community around Brás and Pari: in March 2026 the city's health unit in Pari had 991 registered Bangladeshi patients, the third-largest immigrant group it serves (São Paulo city government).

If BBCCI arranges halal catering or a prayer room at the venue, the details will appear here.

Brazilian citizens need a visa for Bangladesh. You apply through Bangladesh's visa portal (www.visa.gov.bd) and the Embassy of Bangladesh in Brasília. The embassy's visa page gives a fee of R$170 for Brazilian citizens and processing within 10 working days.

For a business visa, the embassy asks for a letter from your Brazilian employer and an invitation from your Bangladeshi host, with the host's trade licence. A visa on arrival for business visitors with an invitation attested by BIDA or BEPZA, Bangladesh's investment authorities, may be available — confirm with the embassy.

Bangladesh requires a yellow-fever vaccination certificate on arrival from travellers coming from Brazil. There are no direct flights; common routings make one connection, for example in Dubai, Doha, Istanbul or Addis Ababa.
